Normally, they would return to Chongqing together just before the Spring Festival. Having spent the last two decades mostly within the village where she worked, Li's mother wasn't familiar with taking taxis, buses, or using navigation. Throughout the journey, Li couldn't contain her excitement and nervousness. "When the plane took off, I felt like I understood the true meaning of growing up.
