An early batch of Michael Wolff’s explosive new book on US president Donald Trump has sold out at Waterstones “in minutes”.Fire And Fury’s release date was brought forward by four days to January 5, with publisher Henry Holt and Co citing “unprecedented demand”.A spokeswoman for Waterstones told the Press Association: “We haven’t seen this level of interest in a political title in some time, and the media and customer interest in Fire And Fury in the UK, the US and elsewhere is indicative of the global fascination with President Trump and his administration.”
然而,書中的男主角·特朗普卻對這本書表示了強(qiáng)烈抗議,稱此書簡直是鬼話連篇:“全是些不存在的謊言、誤傳和不靠譜的來源!”(full of lies, misrepresentations and sources that don’t exist)
According to Wolff the idea was that Trump would win by losing.'Once he lost, Trump would be both insanely famous and a martyr to Crooked Hillary,' the author wrote. And it wouldn't work out well just for Trump. His daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner would be 'international celebrities' after the campaign.
"When the unexpected trend -- Trump might actually win -- seemed confirmed, Don Jr. told a friend that his father, or DJT, as he called him, looked as if he had seen a ghost. Melania, to whom Donald Trump had made his solemn guarantee, was in tears -- and not of joy."
"There was, in the space of little more than an hour, in Steve Bannon's not unamused observation, a befuddled Trump morphing into a disbelieving Trump and then into a horrified Trump. But still to come was the final transformation: Suddenly, Donald Trump became a man who believed that he deserved to be, and was wholly capable of being, the president of the United States."
"'The three senior guys in the campaign,' an incredulous Bannon went on, 'thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor -- with no lawyers.
'They didn't have any lawyers. Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad shit, and I happen to think it's all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately.'"
Bannon was referring to Trump's son Donald Jr, son-in-law Jared Kushner and campaign manager Paul Manafort.
"Balancing risk against reward, both Jared and Ivanka decided to accept roles in the West Wing over the advice of almost everyone they knew. It was a joint decision by the couple, and, in some sense, a joint job. Between themselves, the two had made an earnest deal: If sometime in the future the opportunity arose, she'd be the one to run for president. The first woman president, Ivanka entertained, would not be Hillary Clinton; it would be Ivanka Trump."
(注:據(jù)CNN報(bào)道,先前沃爾夫曾為默多克撰寫傳記《擁有媒體之人》(The Man Who Owns the News),后證實(shí)內(nèi)有部分不實(shí)描述。)
Trump's stability has been questioned by critics almost since he declared his candidacy for the presidency. They cite remarks and tweets they say show him as impulsive, petulant and erratic. Yet the sensational details in the new book and Trump's continued defense of his mental health have wrenched attention away from policy and news of US financial markets hitting all-time highs, bringing even more scrutiny over whether the US leader is fit for office.
“《烈焰與怒火:特朗普白宮內(nèi)幕》書評:全盤揭秘?zé)饬艘磺小?rdquo;
