Excellent interpreters not only master the language, but also master certain speech skills. WorldUnion translation company will take you to understand the skills of interpretation and speech:
1. Control of volume
Interpreters should not shout loudly. Even if the speaker is too loud, they should not be affected and raise the volume. Moderate volume, even if your translation is easy to be accepted by the audience, it will not appear lack of confidence or dominate the audience. It is necessary to adjust the volume in the process of translation. The interpreter should pay attention to the audience's expressions from the beginning of his speech, especially those in the front row and the last row. The unhappy expression of the front audience or the puzzled expression of the back audience are signals of inappropriate volume.
2. Mastery of tone
Generally speaking, it is best for translators to use the Alto in translation, because the Alto appears calm and credible, and they should pay attention to making the audience feel friendly, gentle, sincere and enthusiastic through the change of tone. As an interpreter, it is inappropriate to show strong emotions. A tepid tone can make you more objective. However, this does not mean that the interpreter should use one tone from beginning to end. Monotonous tone will make the audience feel dull and greatly destroy the effect of speech.
3. Mastery of rhythm
Generally, the expression speed in Chinese is 150 ~ 180 words per minute, while in English it is 120 ~ 150 words. Although translators should consider the characteristics of the translated content and the speed adopted by the speaker to determine the rhythm of their translation and transmission, too large fluctuation in the average value will cause an additional burden on the audience to receive information. Therefore, the interpreter should adopt medium speed, and should slow down appropriately at important information points, such as numbers, special terms, names, titles, etc. and key words specially emphasized by the speaker. It is also very important to often adjust the rhythm in the process of translation.
4. Mastery of pause
For translators, appropriate pause can not only naturally and generously create time to think or repair defects in translation, but also bring better results to information expression. When talking about speech skills, Mark Twain once said, "the right words may be effective, but no words are more effective than the right pause". Translators should pay attention to the pause time. A long pause will make the audience think that the interpreter can't translate, which will affect their trust in the interpreter; And too short a pause doesn't work. Mark Twain thought, "the pause for an audience should be short; Two listeners, pause a little longer; More listeners, pause a little longer ".
5. Mastery of enunciation
Whether the speaker can speak clearly and completely. Speaking clearly is essential to effectively convey information. Slowing down the speed of speech is an effective way to strengthen word spitting. At the same time, because the speech on formal occasions is different from dialogue and conversation, it often requires the speaker to pronounce words more completely. The continuous reading, weak reading and swallowing between words (words and words) need to be appropriately reduced, and unnecessary expressions with personal habits should be avoided in the expression.
