It is an inevitable choice based on its national conditions that China unswervingly takes the road of peaceful development. During the 100-odd years following the Opium War in 1840, China suffered untold/utter/deep humiliation from the big powers. Ever since the advent of modern times, it has become the assiduously sought goal of the Chinese people to eliminate war, safeguard/maintain peace and build a country of independence and prosperity in which the people can lead a happy life. Although it has made enormous achievements in development, China, with a large population, a weak economic foundation and unbalanced development, is still the largest developing country in the world. It is the central task of China to promote economic and social development and improve its people’s life. What the Chinese people need and cherish most is a peaceful international environment. We are willing to do our best to make energetic contributions for the common development of all countries.  

第四講:增補(bǔ)詞語 順暢譯文 （教材第9章） 中西言語不同，詞序結(jié)構(gòu)各異。翻譯時(shí) 為使譯文通暢順達(dá)，增補(bǔ)詞語時(shí)有必須。 根據(jù)譯文需要，原文暗含之意，需要明 確敘之；原文直白表述之意，譯文可含 蓄述之。諸如此類，不一而足。本章通 過具體實(shí)例，揭示翻譯中的增補(bǔ)之要。  

1、抽象名詞 具體釋義 1. After all preparations were made, American-Korean dialogue was held in Beijing last week. 2(世博北京翻譯公司). This modern hospital is able to cope with various emergencies. 3. The tensions between America and China was greatly improved after Nexion’s visit to Beijing.  

補(bǔ)加修飾語 增強(qiáng)表達(dá)力 1. She was small, pale and sandy-haired. 2(世博北京翻譯公司). These early automobiles were slow, clumsy, and inefficient. 3. The girl took the news quite palely and calmly.

聯(lián)想之意 化而譯之 1. The opposition leader’s speech stole the headlines from the government. 2(世博北京翻譯公司). Now, I had to become a miser with words and stretch every sentence like a poor man spending his last dollar.  

動(dòng)詞之后 增補(bǔ)賓語 1. She sent her out to attract and torment and do mischief, with the malicious assurance that she was beyond the reach of all admirers. 2(世博北京翻譯公司). He rode with her whenever she was free.  

數(shù)量之詞 深化其喻 1. They carried on the work in spite of the difficulties. 2(世博北京翻譯公司). The five rings represent the contents of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and America.
